New web site looks back at the 'Old Bahamas' PDF Print E-mail

The nostalgic meets the Internet age on a new web site launched last week, oldbahamas.com.

The web site features hundreds of photos dating as far back as the 19th century, including scenes from New Providence and (what is now) Paradise Island, Abaco, Eleuthera and Bimini. Harbour scenes, hotels, public buildings, devastation from hurricanes, tourists and local markets all make up the broad and fascinating collection.

You'll see silk cotton trees that are now long gone, trees growing in Rawson Square, humble island dwellings, spongers, and scenes from the horse track and Speed Week in Nassau.

The web site creator, Bob Davies, promises many more photos will be added in the future and welcomes any input, suggestions, more details about the photos and any photo submissions that visitors to the web site may have.
