The Twilight Saga : New Moon The tagline for this movie: The Next Chapter Begins. The love story of the teen on the cusp of adulthood and her vampire lover continues. When a minor accident during her boyfriend's family's celebration of her birthday adds to the fact that people are noticing that members of said family are not aging as they should, the family of vampires decides to move from the town. Heartbroken that she could not go with them, she finds comfort in the form of reckless behavior and closer relationship with her best friend, but he also harbors a secret with the potential to scar her for life. Bella Swan delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of, but in her quest she find her self in greater peril than before as she is haunted by the memory of her undead boyfriend. Edward Cullen takes it upon himself to leave the town of Forks and his true love Bella when his family moves in hopes of protecting her from them, but he leaves her unprotected from the threat of others and herself. Jacob Black is a member of the Quileute tribe, in love with Bella and sees the Cullens moving as a good thing for the town, but as he gets closer to Bella circumstances beyond his control may force him to end the friendship. Sam Uley is the leader of the werewolf pack that protects humans against predatory vampires but his fiancée Emily Young is proof that he is not always in control of his transformation.
The hype surrounding this movie was intense and seeing that the last one was just a year ago I must tell the fans that the wait was worth it. I was skeptical about how the werewolves would look on screen, but the detail in the way they were rendered brought back memories of the wolves in Princess Mononoke. I'm not a fan of sunlight glittering vampires, but portraying them as sculpted works of art that can be cracked or broken does intrigue me and reminds me of Anne Rice vampires. Chris Weitz does a great job of directing this installment and acting of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner gives weight to lines which would have been less in weaker actors. I rate this movie a Rated T. See you next year for Eclipse.
One of the taglines for this movie: We Were Warned. Due to solar flare bombardment the Earth's core begins heating up at an unprecedented rate, eventually causing crustal displacement. This coincides with the ancient Mayan calendar and causes a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world as we know it. The adventure begins as the survivors who have narrowly escaped multiple catastrophes must make it the ships in the Himalayas in order to make it through the final flood. Jackson Curtis is the writer of Farewell Atlantis who has been forced to work as a limousine driver to pay the bills while he writes his new book, but a chance meeting with conspiracy theorist Charlie Frost has made him aware of a series of cataclysmic events on the horizon. Adrian Helmsley is the scientific adviser to the President of the United States and one of the few readers of Farewell Atlantis who has knowledge of the events about the take place and the plans to save a small percentage of the Earth's population to repopulate the planet when it has finished shifting. thomas Wilson is the Chief of Staff for the President of the United States and he is is doing everything with in his power to keep the world at large in the dark about the events about to unfold until it is too late for them, even if it includes giving the order to kill those who try to inform the public. Yuri Karpov is a Russian billionaire who is doing everything with in his power to get to on of the ships that will assure his safelty and the safety of his twins sons which cost him a billion euros each. This is a Summer popcorn movie given to us in the Fall. It was suppose to be brought out in July, but it was decided that November would have less competition for box office supremacy. Well it work for a week and that week was all it needed. This movie can be described as the mother of all disaster movies and it just shows the director Roland Emmerich doing what he does best. The ensemble cast gives us our money's worth with John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejoifor leading the pack. The effects are first rate and mind blowing in detail and awe inspiring in presentation. I rate this movie a Rated T.
